Chimpanzee trekking in Rwanda is mostly advised at Nyungwe national park. The beautiful and oldest rain forest park is also home to over 13 more species of primates which include the Angola Colobus, the golden monkeys and L’Hoests monkey that is endemic to the Albertine rift. This park feeds two of the largest rivers in the world namely, river Congo and river Nile. In the east African region, nyungwe stands out as a biodiversity hotspot. Botanists and biologists enjoy the rich flora and fauna of this park.
With over 1060 species of plants which include over 160 orchid species, Nyungwe is also home to over 300 bird species, 120 species of butterflies, 32 reptile species and 38 reptile species.
Old ancient trees are part of Nyungwe canopies. Apart from the chimpanzee trekking, this is also the best park to enjoy nature trails and canopy walks. The canopy board offers breathtaking views over the canopies and the wildlife inside the forests. For the nature walks, you have more than a dozen trails to explore.
