The Jozani forest sanctuary is the first and only Wildlife reserve in Zanzibar Island. It is also the only known sanctuary for the rare red Colobus monkeys.  It is 35 kilometers away from stone town and covers an area of 1000 hectares.  It is also home to Kirks Colobus monkeys endemic to Zanzibar.

Sykes and hyraxes make jump across the canopies as the variety of birds make beautiful noises in this beautiful forest. This is also home to the endangered Aders duiker, Zanzibar Suni and the black and white rofous elephant shrew.   It is a great place to spot the colored Fischer’sTuraco, dark backed weaver, little Greenbul, Zanzibar bishops, colored sunbirds. Take a walk across the boardwalks and enjoy the sights of pygmy kingfishers, mangrove kingfishers, plovers and sandpipers. The waterfowl life within the mangroves is flourishing.
