This park is located on the slopes of Mt Meru.  This is the second highest mountain in Tanzania after Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.  The mountain offers a beautiful view on any sunny day few kilometers north East of Arusha town. It is the smallest park in Tanzania with an area of 137 square kilometers. Arusha national park has very unique landscape and vegetation not seen anywhere else in northern Tanzania.

Its proximity to the city makes it an ideal start for an exploring safari in Tanzania. The vegetation comprises of dense forests, swamps and grasslands. The ngurdoto crater is a major attraction here. The mommela lakes are home to flamingos and several other bird species due to their richness in algae. There are over 380 bird species recorded here.

Wildlife in Arusha national park includes colobus monkeys, elephants, buffalos, waterbucks, blue monkeys, giraffes amongst others. Activities in the park include game drives. Bird watching, canoeing, walking safaris. You can also hike up Mt Meru or to the waterfalls.
