Serengeti national park is famed for its large lion prides. It’s unending rolling plains are a sight to behold considering its seven times bigger than the Maasai Mara game reserve in Kenya.  The Serengeti, whose Maasai name ‘Siringet’ translates as ‘the endless plains’. It offers unparalleled ornithological opportunities and an unrivaled natural wildlife arena. Serengeti’s glory and harmony of nature can be appreciated as nowhere else on earth. Covering 14,763 sq. km of endlessly rolling Savannah plains. It is Tanzania’s first-established as a national park therefore it has already shaped its name on the global map.

It is the largest and most famous park in the northern safari circuit .Wherein tens of thousands of hoofed animals roam in a constant and unremitting search for the fresh grasslands, is also home to thousands of resident wildlife.  The million-plus wildebeest are the predominant herbivores.  The main prey of a huge cast of large carnivores, principally lion and hyena. The annual wildebeests migration  is the Serengeti’s most famous attraction. The migrations movements depends on the rain patterns. The herbivores in their millions follow the short grass fresh sprouts. Ideally the large cats follow them for food too.

Wildlife migrates from the Serengeti in to the famous Masai Mara in Kenya and other surrounding conservancies. The wildebeests migration is spectacular in Mara between the months of July and September. During the months of may to July, they migration is in northern Serengeti , getting over the grumeti river in to Masai Mara. Its the perfect time to follow the migration in a Kenya tanzania combined safari.  Big cats including lion, cheetah and leopard roam these plains.  You will also see zebra, giraffe, Thomson’s and Grant’s gazelle, eland, impala, klipspringer, and warthog.

The northern circuit safari in Tanzania culminates with a safari in Serengeti. It can be combined with other destinations or just a Serengeti safari by itself. The lodges vary from simple under canvas tented camps to luxurious lodges tucked in the wild plains. Other activities in Serengeti include hot air balloon safari, cultural experiences with the maasai and photography. Other lodges offer walking safaris and bird watching with their guides. Serengeti is therefore a safari destination with activities for all.
